The DC area’s chapter of First Tee got going back in 1999, not long after the national organization was founded in partnership with several of the sport’s governing bodies.  After operating solely at East Potomac & Langston golf courses for its first 15 years, the First Tee of Greater Washington DC expanded into Northern Virginia as well as Montgomery & Prince George’s counties in recent years, now working with 24 courses in the region.

This episode is made of three conversations –  Clint Sanchez, the chapter’s executive director for nearly a decade. Lennard Long, who is a former long-time student of the program, who went on to play college golf at Morehouse and is now back as a full-time staffer.  John Garner, who has been coaching with the First Tee in DC for over 20 years, is a native of the city and shares plenty of memories of what golf was like in Washington growing up.
